“What Prevents Experts From Making REAL Money?”

In this brand-new interview, I explain what prevents “Experts” from making money with what they know. (HINT: It’s because their mindset is wrong.)

My friend Joe Polish interviewed me a few weeks ago for his series – and I asked him if I could share this interview with you (he typically offers these interviews to people who subscribe to his paid memberships).

If you’re serious about turning what you know into money… in the form of Information Products, Advice or Coaching… then listen carefully and take this information to heart. It will make a big difference.

Listen to this interview, then leave a comment to share what you learned below!

P.S. I’ve had a couple of people mention to me that I sound like I’m being critical of “experts in general” in this interview – which I’m not. Expertise is awesome, and it’s the foundation of most success in the world. My friend Brendon Burchard (founder of the Experts Academy) and I just had a quick conversation, and he mentioned that someone was confused about this distinction – thinking that I might be “bad mouthing” the idea of becoming an expert. So, for the RECORD, it’s GREAT to become an expert. Everyone should do it. But don’t get limited by the MINDSET that often comes along with “experience” – of thinking that you’re smarter or better than others!

    great interview!
The reason people do not want to give information away, is because of scarcity thinking, this is really a sign of expert and marketing transition. so called expert, who is not marketer, he thinks, if he gives his only valuable information away, people will learn it and he will not be the only one knowing that particular information.
I used to think like this too, but as I evolved and really got into give-before-get mindset, I am no longer fearful of sharing EVERYTHING that I know.
Because being a marketer, I know that everyday I DELIBERATELY, will go out and seek additional knowledge and I will do it everyday.
Therefore even if I do give out everything that I know:
    1. people will not get it all immediately. it will take time to “get it” to process and on their level they still will have so many question about it.
    2. if they do and it helps them, I will feel better about giving them what I know and they then will see me as an expert and will think if I know this, I must know a lot more.
    3. taking in the account that we all learn at some average speed, there is no way in the world, they are gonna catch up to me, even if they do the same amount of learning. (thats why mentors exist, you will never surpass your mentor, cause he never stops learning either).

so yes, this expert to marketer shift, comes from bureaucratic world thinking, just look at doctors, lawyers and other academics – who have studied all their life to get the knowledge they have and you can’t really blame them. but what you can blame them for is after getting their wonder-degree they usually do stop learning, thinking they know everything and they don’t need to learn more and they have a diploma to prove it. that is their problem.
Entrepreneurs think differently and as dan sullivan says they are the new idols and new role models for the world. amen to that!
    thanks EBEN you’re the MAN!

    Eugenia Says:

I thought I’d never be any good at selling, because I’m always giving away free advice. (I’m a job search coach.) I’ve always believed that if a person is afraid of giving away what they know, it’s because they probably don’t have much to sell. It’s so great to know that I can be myself and be a successful marketer.

Of course, I’ve heard and read a hundred times that you have to address the other person’s needs, but the way you explain things really resonates with me. There are so many people who claim to know how to sell. Some of them are pushing used car salesmen techniques. You really are a great communicator. I recognize the “expert” traits in me, and I understand why that model turns people off–including me. Lawyers and doctors are perfect examples of Experts with degrees and titles who charge for consultations and get paid regardless of the quality of their work. Most of them charge for consultations, even when the only thing they tell you is that they can’t do anything for you. It’s so good to hear that there’s a better model that builds on a characteristic that I share with good marketers–I want to help people, and I really care.

Thank you very much for your videos. They are priceless.
